A replacement project starts with the existing window or door, surrounding trim and the condition of the opening. The estimate needs to account for how the unit will be removed, which finishes are included and what happens if deteriorated material is uncovered.
New-construction installation is coordinated with the rough opening, sill preparation, flashing and weather barrier before the exterior finishes conceal the work. See our new-construction window and door installation example for those details.
Our completed replacement-window project shows the finished work. Where an opening affects the wall finish, coordinate it with siding and stone veneer.
Compare estimates using the same products and finish scope. Confirm which materials are supplied by GRE, which are owner-supplied and how changes will be handled. Project financing options are also available through our Acorn Finance link.
Planning guide: replacement vs. new-construction window installation →
Tell us which openings you want to address and the problems you are seeing. The estimate can define that scope and account for matching trim and finishes where relevant.
Trim and finishing can materially change the scope. Ask for jambs, interior casing, exterior trim, caulking and any painting or staining to be identified in the project estimate.
Product selection and installation both matter, but surrounding wall conditions, indoor humidity and ventilation can also contribute. Describe the symptoms so the project addresses the cause as well as the opening.
Ordering and installation timing depend on the selected units, availability, number of openings and project conditions. Confirm the lead time and installation plan before committing to a date.
Ask for the applicable manufacturer documentation and the installation terms for your specific project. Product coverage and installation responsibilities should be clear before work begins.
